Community Involvement Across Alberta from the Optometrists' Clinic Inc. Staff

Community is very important to us at Optometrists’ Clinic Inc. We take pride in giving back whenever possible, and we’re proud to announce our donation to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation’s Eye Institute of Alberta. Our donation will go toward improving a facility that cares for more than 45,000 patients per year. As we refer our patients to the Eye Institute for further care, we fully support this cause!

Our current community charity initiative has been to contribute to the “making the season kind” campaign, a partnership between CBC Edmonton and the Edmonton Foodbank. Over the years, our doctors and staff have donated close to $30,000 to this campaign to support local families!

Dr. Troy Brady

B.Sc., O.D.

Dr. Troy Brady grew up in Pinawa, Manitoba and graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Optometry degree(Dean’s Honours List). Immediately following his graduation, he moved to Edmonton and began practicing at Optometrists’ Clinic Inc. He takes a special interest in ocular disease, contact lenses and family practice. He is a past-president of the Alberta Association of Optometrists (2018-2020), serving on the AAO Council since 2010. He is currently the Alberta representative and treasurer of the Canadian Association of Optometrists. Dr. Brady is an avid golfer and still plays hockey once a week. This includes playing in the Alzheimer’s Faceoff Pro-Am hockey tournament during which he and his team have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help find a cure for dementia.
Dr. Kimberly Collins

Dr. Kimberly Collins

B.Sc., O.D.

Dr. Collins was born and raised in Saskatchewan. She received her Bachelor of Science (with Distinction) from the University of Regina in 2001 and went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry (Dean’s Honours List) at the University of Waterloo in 2006. At that time, she was also honoured with The Award for Excellence in Patient Management by the Ontario Association of Optometrists for her exceptional patient care. Dr. Collins has a special interest in children’s vision and myopia control, having worked on research projects regarding vision and literacy as part of the Bobier lab at the Waterloo School of Optometry. She is also interested in contact lenses and has an extensive background in dry eye therapy and glaucoma therapy having had the privilege to hone her skills at the Eye Foundation of Utah with Dr. Robert Wooldridge. In her spare time, Dr. Collins loves spending time with her family. She also enjoys reading, gardening, hiking, painting and music

Dr. Benjamin Doz

B.Sc., O.D.

Dr. Benjamin Doz is a dedicated optometrist whose career reflects a deep commitment to both clinical excellence and humanitarian service. After earning his Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta, he pursued his Doctorate in Optometry at the Southern California College of Optometry, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion for vision care. With professional interests spanning family practice, contact lenses, and global eye health, Dr. Doz has built a reputation for expertise and leadership. He holds privileges with Capital Care Continuing Care and General Hospital, and his influence extends beyond clinical practice through past advisory roles with major organizations such as Wesley Jessen, Sola Barnes Hind, Ciba Geigy, Alcon, and Johnson & Johnson. His work as an FDA investigator and his service on boards—including the University Coordinating Council and the Alberta Association of Optometrists Continuing Education Section—underscore his dedication to advancing the profession. As past Chair of the Occupational Vision Care Committee, he championed initiatives to improve workplace eye health. Dr. Doz’s contributions to research and education include co-authoring articles in the Canadian Journal of Pharmacology, presenting findings on microbial keratitis and contact lens solutions at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and offering expert insights in publications such as Psychobiographies and Godly Visions. These efforts reflect his commitment to evidence-based care and knowledge sharing. Equally passionate about community service, Dr. Doz has served as President of the Rotary Club of Edmonton West, directed programs at the Family Centre, and volunteered with the Salvation Army and Edmonton Food Bank. Since 1997, he has participated in numerous charitable eye care missions across Central and South America, bringing vision services to underserved communities and transforming lives through sight. Dr. Doz’s career is a testament to the power of combining professional expertise with compassion and global outreach. Whether in the clinic, the classroom, or abroad, his work continues to make a lasting impact on individuals and communities worldwide

Dr. Angela Endres

O.D.

Dr. Endres began her studies at the University of Alberta before graduating with honours in 2000 from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. Following graduation, she returned to her hometown of Sherwood Park and joined the Optometrists’ Clinic, where she continues to serve patients at both the Capilano and Mayfield locations. 
 
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Endres is a proud mother of two daughters and an enthusiastic supporter of their various pursuits. She also enjoys staying active through ringette refereeing, Pilates, hiking, skiing, and traveling. 

Dr. Candice Evernden

B.Sc., O.D.

Dr. Candice Evernden is an optometrist from Lacombe AB. She went to school at Pacific University in Oregon. During her training she had the opportunity to practice in Washington State, Alaska and Vancouver Island, BC. After graduation she decided to complete an Ocular Disease Residency in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated residency and returned to Canada where she has since practiced with Optometrists’ Clinic Inc. 

Dr. Evernden is very passionate about providing care to people that may not otherwise have access. She has travelled on two trips to El Salvador, one trip to Senegal and most recently to Ecuador. She hopes to continue to travel and provide care where needed. 

Outside of work, her and her husband enjoy camping and hiking in the summertime with their little dog – Mickey Rooney. 

Dr. Evernden thoroughly enjoys her practices at both Capilano and Leduc Eye Centres and continues to accept new patients. 

Dr. Tracy Kitz

B.Sc., O.D.

Dr. Kitz graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in 2015. She then went to Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon to complete her Doctorate of Optometry. She graduated with distinction in 2019. Outside of work she enjoys camping, skiing, and crafting.  Dr. Kitz has a special interest in family practice, ocular disease, and contact lenses. She practices at our Westlock, Mayfield, and Jasper Ave locations and continues to accept new patients.

Dr. Brian Mah

B.Sc., O.D.

Dr. Brian Mah provides comprehensive eye care at both the Jasper Avenue and Leduc clinic locations. He completed his Bachelor of Science at the University of Alberta and earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo. With more than 15 years of clinical experience, Dr. Mah is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patientfocused care that supports longterm vision health. Born and raised in Edmonton, Dr. Mah is proud to serve the community he calls home. He has been actively involved in local eyehealth initiatives, including Diabetes Day events, and has volunteered with Homeless Connect to provide free eye care to individuals facing barriers to access. He also contributes to the profession as an active committee member with the Alberta College of Optometry. Dr. Mah values building strong, trusting relationships with his patients and is dedicated to helping individuals of all ages achieve their best possible vision

Dr. Stan Russo

O.D.

Dr. Stan Russo grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. He obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree with honours from the University of Waterloo in 2003. In 2015, Dr. Russo completed the Oral Therapeutics, Glaucoma and Advanced Diagnostic Course from Northeastern State University College of Optometry. Since moving back to the Edmonton area in 2003, Dr Russo has devoted his career to the advancement of the profession and to meeting the needs of his patients. He has a special interest in pediatric eye care and specialty contact lenses.  He has given presentations to elementary school classes through the Alberta Association of Optometrists and has been a supervising clinician for interns from the University of Waterloo. He was a member of the Alberta College of Optometrists Council from 2007-2014 and through this was able to help advance the scope of optometry in Alberta. Dr. Russo also serves his community by volunteering for his church, Santa Maria Goretti, and with his local fencing club. His favourite time of year is Christmas when he spearheads a yearly food bank drive along with other members of the Optometrists’ Clinic team for CBC Radio’s Making the Season Kind. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his extended family, especially traveling with his wife and three sons.

Dr. G. Shane Smith

O.D.

Dr. Shane Smith is a University of Alberta alumnus, holding a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science, followed by a Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR, USA.  Through his scholastic career, he was published in medical literature for his work in immunology and his thesis on dry eye disease.  During optometry school, he was accepted into Beta Sigma Kappa international Optometric honor society and upon graduation, worked as chief optometrist at a LASIK surgical centre in Washington state, eventually returning home to Alberta where he started with Optometrists Clinic. Dr. Smith is involved with the Rotary club, with volunteering in both community and international vision initiatives.  When not splitting his schedule between our Westlock and Leduc clinics, he enjoys spending time with his two sons camping, fishing and skiing.
