Frequently Asked Questions about Contact Lenses

No, an eye exam is required before getting contact lenses! Contact lenses require a specific prescription that differs from eyeglasses, as they sit directly on the eye rather than at a distance.

At Optometrists’ Clinic, we provide comprehensive eye exams in Edmonton & the surrounding area to measure your prescription, check for eye health concerns, and ensure your contacts fit properly. If you’re new to contact lenses, we’ll also show you how to insert, remove, and care for them safely.

Yes, contact lenses are safe when used correctly. However, improper use—such as sleeping in contacts not designed for overnight wear, using expired lenses, or failing to clean them properly—can lead to eye infections or discomfort.

A visit to the Optometrists’ Clinic in Edmonton will help you determine which type of lenses are best for your lifestyle, whether daily disposables, bi-weekly, or monthly lenses. We can ensure you get the right fit and educate you on proper contact lens hygiene!

🔹 Pro tip: Always wash your hands before handling lenses and use fresh solution—never water or saliva!

Absolutely! There are special contact lenses designed for astigmatism. These are called toric lenses, and they are shaped to stay in place and correct the uneven curvature of the eye that causes blurry vision.

Not all toric lenses fit the same way, so it’s essential to have a contact lens fitting during your eye exam in Edmonton. At Optometrists’ Clinic, we assess your vision, test different lens options, and ensure you have comfortable, clear sight with your new contacts.

Yes! Many people alternate between contact lenses and glasses depending on their needs. Contact lenses are great for sports and outdoor activities, while glasses provide a convenient option for days when you want a break from lenses.

Your optometrist in Edmonton can help you get the right prescription for both glasses and contacts so you can switch seamlessly between them. At Optometrists’ Clinic, we offer a wide range of eyeglasses and contact lens options to fit your lifestyle.
