Monthly Contact Lenses
Monthly contact lenses are designed to be worn daily for up to 30 days and then thrown away and replaced. Here’s an overview of the Alcon contact lenses that fall into this category:
- Total 30® These are the most recent additions to Alcon’s line of monthly contacts. They’re the first and only water gradient lenses that are so comfortable they feel like you’re not wearing them, even on day 30. Total 30® lenses are designed to bio mimic the natural gel-like layer of defence on the surface of your eyes. These lenses contain polymer nanofibres, which closely imitate the epithelial cells on the cornea to selectively attract small water molecules and resist large molecules like lipids and bacteria. These monthly contact lenses feature a gradual transition in water content. The core is made up of 55% water to maximize breathability, whereas the outermost surface is almost entirely made of water to deliver outstanding comfort. The water gradient is durable and remains intact throughout an entire month of nightly cleaning, disinfection and storage.
- Air Optix® Colors: You can experiment with colour and find a look you love with Air Optix® Colors contact lenses. These lenses are breathable and offer 3-in-1 colour technology for a stunning, natural appearance. They come in 12 beautiful colours to enhance both light and dark-coloured eyes, including brown, blue, green, pure hazel, grey, amethyst, honey, gemstone green, sterling grey, brilliant blue, turquoise and true sapphire.
- Air Optix® Night & Day® Aqua: The most breathable contact lenses on the market, Air Optix® Night & Day® Aqua are designed for 30 nights of continuous wear. They allow oxygen to continuously flow through the lens, which ensures the whites of your eyes, the sclera, look clear and healthy. Additionally, these lenses are embedded with SmartShield® technology, which creates a protective layer of moisture to help shield the lenses from irritating deposits. This ensures they remain comfortable, day after day.
- Air Optix® Plus HydraGlyde®: These contact lenses combine two unique innovations for consistent 30-day comfort. The HydraGlyde® Moisture Matrix technology surrounds the lenses in moisture to help keep your eyes hydrated. Meanwhile, SmartShield® technology creates an ultra-thin protective layer to protect the lenses from irritating deposits and resist lens parameter changes from the use of cosmetics, hand creams and makeup removers. This contact lens technology is also suitable for people with astigmatism and those who need multiple prescriptions with the Air Optix® Plus Hydraglyde® for Astigmatism and Air Optix® Plus HydraGlyde® Multi-focal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Contact Lenses right for me?
Contact lenses can correct nearly any vision issue that eyeglasses can, making them a great option for many people. Whether you are nearsighted, farsighted, or need multifocal lenses, there is a contact lens for you. Some people wear them daily, while others prefer them just for special occasions or sports. What are the different types of contact lenses?
At Optometrists’ Clinic Edmonton, we offer a variety of contact lenses from top brands, including ACUVUE®, CIBA VISION®, Bausch + Lomb, and CooperVision. Contact lenses come in different materials and styles, each offering unique benefits:
- Soft Contact Lenses: Made from flexible materials, these lenses are comfortable and easy to adapt to, making them a popular choice for first-time users.
- Hard Contact Lenses: Also known as rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses, these offer sharper vision for some individuals, especially those with astigmatism. They are also more durable and resistant to protein buildup.
Can Contact Lenses help with different eye conditions?
Yes, contact lenses can correct various vision issues. The type of lens you need depends on your specific condition:
- Single Vision: These lenses correct either nearsightedness (myopia) or farsightedness (hyperopia) and are available in both soft and hard materials.
- Astigmatism (Toric Lenses): Designed for individuals with astigmatism, toric lenses provide a stable fit to prevent vision from appearing blurry or distorted.
- Presbyopia (Multifocal Lenses): These lenses combine multiple prescriptions in one, allowing clear vision at all distances—near, intermediate, and far.
How do I take care of my contact lenses?
Proper lens care is essential for eye health and comfort. Always wash your hands before handling your contacts, clean them with the recommended solution (never tap water), and replace them as directed by your optometrist. If you wear daily disposables, simply discard them at the end of the day. Regular eye exams will ensure your lenses fit well and your prescription remains up to date.
